A chaotic series of crashes in Portsmouth led to the arrest of a Massachusetts man this past Tuesday. Adam Krahe, of Beverly, Massachusetts, stands accused of causing multiple accidents with his truck, according to Portsmouth Police Lt. Jordan Wells in a statement obtained by WMUR.

Beginning around 9:30 a.m., these incidents spanned across jurisdictions; a smoking vehicle that eventually stopped on Lafayette Road in Rye captured the attention of local law enforcement, and the subsequent police response halted traffic for two hours. Witnesses reported seeing the damaged truck, and the driver, Krahe, refused to leave the vehicle, which led officers to break a window to extricate him. No injuries were reported in the mayhem, but significant property damage was incurred. Authorities were quick to praise the collaborative effort among local police departments in handling the situation.

The arrested driver, facing charges from three separate police entities, now confronts two counts of felony reckless conduct, two counts of felony criminal mischief, two counts of misdemeanor criminal conduct, reckless operation and a charge related to a traffic control device. After his arrest, Krahe was taken to a hospital and then released on bail; his court appearance is expected in March.

The cooperative nature of the police response included Rye Police Department taking charge while being assisted by Portsmouth Police, as well as support from New Hampshire State Police, North Hampton Police, and the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department, according to information shared by Newport Dispatch.
