Memphis Police Department is currently investigating an incident that unfolded early today, when shots rang out in East Memphis. At approximately 3:26 a.m., officers were called to the scene on Robin Hood Lane, Action News 5 reports. Details surrounding the shooting were initially sparse, with information on injuries still unconfirmed.
Rounding out the picture of the day's early violence, a man was fatally wounded during what appears to have been an attempted burglary, according to a separate account. With police responding to a prowler call in the same block of Robin Hood Lane around the same time, they found the man suffering from several gunshot wounds in the courtyard. Shot by a resident who had detected the intruder, the suspect was later pronounced dead at the hospital, WREG states. The identity of the individual has not been released pending family notification.
Adding to reports from the night, FOX13 notes that the suspect was attempting to enter a home through a window when confronted by the armed homeowner in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood. After being transported to the hospital following the shooting, which MPD responded to around 3:30 a.m., the suspect succumbed to their injuries. The FOX13 report confirms that the authorities have released no further details as of yet.
