A Methuen resident, Sandy Lehane, is embarking on a formidable athletic endeavor known as the World Marathon Challenge, according to Boston 25 News. Lehane is aiming to complete seven marathons across seven continents in seven consecutive days. The goal of this rigorous journey is to support the Michael Lisnow Respite Center in Hopkinton, which offers crucial resources to disabled individuals and their caretakers.
This challenging race is expected to attract 60 runners who will start in Antarctica and proceed through a list that includes Cape Town, Perth, Dubai, Madrid, Fortaleza, and Miami. Lehane, who is no stranger to endurance events having run in the past 14 Boston Marathons, has raised more than $82,000 of her $100,000 target for the Respite Center. "I was inspired as an athlete, but I am fueled by the mission of the Respite Center and how very much I love them," Lehane shared with Boston 25 News.
Aside from the personal accomplishment, Lehane's underpinning purpose, as stated on the Michael Lisnow Respite Center’s website, is to generate awareness and financial support for the center. Lehane views the families involved with the center, who show immense strength and resilience daily, as the true epitome of endurance, their narratives informing her stride throughout the marathons.
"For Sandy, running has always been a passion, but now it has become a pathway to purpose," is written on the Respite Center’s fundraising page. Lehane's commitment goes beyond physical limits, channeling her athletic pursuit to drive meaningful impact. By wearing the infant footprint of Michael Lisnow, the Respite Center's namesake on her running shirt, Lehane carries the essence of their cause with every step. The late Michael Lisnow is remembered for his vibrant spirit against considerable odds and serves as continued inspiration for the center’s mission to embrace and celebrate individuals as they are, his mother, Sharon Lisnow, said, according to her interview with Boston 25 News.
Those who want to support Lehane’s cause can contribute through the fundraising link provided by the Michael Lisnow Respite Center’s website. The center emphasizes the impact every dollar has, providing care and compassion for those within the community needing support, and illustrating the collective power that comes from individual contributions.
