Miami University has announced the cancellation of classes on Monday, Jan. 26, in light of a forecasted winter storm expected to hit Butler County and the surrounding areas this weekend. According to information that the university released, there is a likelihood of over 10 inches of snow accumulating over Saturday and Sunday.
While classes at all area campuses are being called off to give students and families flexibility with their return to campus plans, residence and dining halls will remain open. The university has advised students, who might not be able to safely make it back by Tuesday due to the snow to directly communicate with their faculty. In a move to ensure student well-being, some campus services are set to open with limited offerings at 10 a.m. on Monday, including the Recreation Center and Armstrong Student Center, amongst others, as reported by Miami University.
Staff are to be transitioned to remote work wherever feasible, according to the university’s remote work policy. For those in roles not conducive to remote work, supervisors are expected to communicate about work shifts and assignments. Personnel should prepare to report to campus or request leave if necessary.
Addressing parking during the snow emergency, the Oxford Police Department reminded the community through the university's communication that vehicles cannot be left on snow emergency routes. Any vehicle violating this will be subject to ticketing or towing. Students are instead directed to use designated parking at Ditmer and Chestnut Fields during such emergencies. Important weather-related updates from Miami University will continue to be posted on the institution's home pages at MiamiOH.edu or MiamiOH.edu/Regionals.
