Residents of Phoenix may have noticed increased military activity, but officials say there is no cause for concern. Training exercises began on Wednesday and will continue until February 13, mostly during evening and nighttime hours to limit public visibility, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
The exercises involve a small number of personnel and equipment and will not affect city services or access to parks and facilities. The city shared the information to maintain transparency, recalling past events like the 2015 Black Hawk helicopter training in Downtown Phoenix.
The City of Phoenix says the upcoming military training exercises are not related to immigration, stating, "The City of Phoenix recognizes community concerns regarding federal enforcement activity and wants to be clear that this training does not involve immigration actions, enforcement or operations of any kind," as reported by AZ Family. Phoenix police will be present for safety but will not take part in the exercises. Similar training has happened in 2015 and 2022. "This notice is being shared for public awareness and transparency."
