Travelers who frequent Phelps County Route HH should prepare for detours as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced rescheduled core drilling activities. Originally set to start on January 19, the new schedule kicks in on February 9, with closures happening between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., from Monday through Thursday. According to MoDOT's latest release, the road will be closed at the Spring Creek Bridge, just south of Road 29, with work expected to continue until February 19.
The requirement for this disruption, springs from preparatory measures for a bridge improvement project. Core drilling is critical, for it allows engineers to assess the subsurface and make key decisions regarding bridge design and materials. Motorists should look for message boards, giving notice to find alternative routes. MoDOT has emphasized that all scheduled work depends on favorable weather and that plans could be subject to further changes.
Regarding the larger picture, the Spring Creek Bridge improvement project is on track to be opened for contractor bids in January 2027. As of now, the construction completion is projected for sometime within the same year. These timelines, however, are not set in stone and may be updated in the future.
With the safety of workers and drivers in mind, MoDOT is calling for the public's cooperation. They urge motorists to buckle up, put your phone down, obey all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones. For those driving through, it's vital to exercise heightened caution, respect all work zone signs, and avoid distractions that can pose safety risks.
MoDOT has made it easy for drivers to stay informed on traffic updates.
