Drivers in mid-Missouri should prepare for a multitude of roadway maintenance and construction activities scheduled from January 5 through January 11, 2026, as reported by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). According to MoDOT's recent announcement, weather permitting, the region can expect various projects ranging from pothole patching and brush cutting to major culvert replacements and roundabout construction, with potential delays due to lane closures.
In Boone County, a significant update indicates the closure of Old Plank Road starting tomorrow, January 5, for roundabout construction at the Route K intersection, with detours clearly signposted, while U.S. Route 63 will see ongoing interchange improvements at Route AC (Grindstone Parkway); however, traffic impacts should be minimal, despite close proximity to work crews. On Interstate 70, travelers should anticipate lane closures from west of St. Charles Road to the Callaway County line because of new pavement construction that is part of the larger Improve I-70 Program that stretches into 2027.
MoDOT's news release also outlines work in Callaway County where shoulder work on Route UU and a ramp closure on I-70 at Route A could slow down motorists from January 5 to January 9, lane closures are expected in Camden County due to pavement widening on U.S. Route 54 and pedestrian facility improvements in Lebanon are continuing near Adams Street, slated for completion in January 2026.
Elsewhere, vigorous roadside work is scheduled for multiple counties, including Cooper, Crawford, Dent, and Howard, with lane reductions and flagged traffic zones, and Maries County will see the Route AA bridge over the Maries River closed for deck replacement, however, a detour will guide drivers around the construction area. Significant projects include roundabout construction at Route 87 and Route C in Moniteau County and at the Route 52 and Route 5 intersection in Morgan County, though traffic flow is maintained but constricted, be wary of potential backups as MoDOT completes these sites within the month.
MoDOT asks all motorists to buckle up, put your phone down, obey all traffic signs, and slow down and move over in work zones. For further details on current projects and traffic updates, MoDOT encourages travelers to visit their Traveler Information Map or to call their Customer Service Center. Updates and additional information can be accessed anytime through MoDOT's social media or by subscribing to direct work zone updates.
