Early this morning on the southbound side of State Route 163, a person was found dead inside a stopped vehicle near Kearny Villa Road in Miramar shortly before 6 a.m. A California Highway Patrol service-patrol officer spotted the vehicle on the right-hand shoulder and pulled over to check on the occupant, then determined the person was deceased and notified investigators, who have since opened a probe into the death.
According to FOX 5 San Diego, the officer who approached the vehicle discovered the body, and the San Diego-area CHP later said the incident does not appear to be related to a traffic collision. Authorities had not released the person's identity as of Wednesday afternoon. Officials described the investigation as active, and detectives, along with the county medical examiner, responded to the freeway shoulder.
