Last Friday, around 9:15 a.m., a woman was attacked while walking on the Mill Creek Greenway in Antioch Park at 5023 Blue Hole Road, Nashville. She fought off her assailant from behind, reached her car, and called 911, sustaining only minor injuries, according to Fox17.
This incident, echoing the October 2024 killing of Alyssa Lokits on the same trail, has raised concerns about public safety on local greenways. The Metro Nashville Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463 as the investigation continues, as reported by The Tennessean.
A recent attack in a Nashville community still affected by the death of Alyssa Lokits has drawn attention to public safety. Abby Lokits, Alyssa’s sister-in-law, founded the nonprofit Free to Move to improve safety in outdoor areas for women, saying, "It’s really hard to find words that could accurately express how we feel." The organization provides educational resources and will work with Metro Parks in the spring to review and improve safety on the city’s greenways. Abby Lokits added, "We cannot be doing this fast enough because it just keeps happening," as per WSMV.
