Nashville's Youth Services Division detectives have intensified their efforts to find Mena Awad, 31, the suspect in the December 31 sexual assault case. This plea to the public follows the issuing of arrest warrants charging Awad with aggravated rape, aggravated assault, and aggravated burglary on Monday. According to the official statement from the Nashville Police Department, the incident was reported to have taken place early in the morning in a Millwood Drive apartment, the home of a 16-year-old girl.
The teenager, whose identity has been protected, stated that the assailant, whom she did not recognize, entered her unlocked home while carrying both a gun and a knife. Awad, who detectives have reason to believe is homeless, is known to frequent the environments around Millwood Drive and Murfreesboro Pike, as per the Nashville Police Department. In their effort to swiftly locate Awad, the detectives have turned to analyze surveillance footage from the area, which consequently led to identifying Awad as the culprit.
The police have now made a direct appeal to anyone with information on Awad's whereabouts, urging them to come forward. Calls can be directed to 615-862-8600, or for those wishing to remain anonymous, to Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
