
A New Bedford man has been taken into custody following a violent altercation in Fairhaven, which left three individuals wounded from stab injuries. As per the Fairhaven Police, the incident occurred outside of a Cherry Street residence on January 4, shortly after 10 p.m. One of the victims is reportedly in critical condition.
Following an investigation into the matter, Fairhaven Police identified 21-year-old Gavin Massas as the suspect in the brutal stabbing, as reported by Turn to 10. In addition to a knife, a gun believed to belong to Massas was discovered at the scene, according to information from the authorities.
Massas is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (firearm), assault with intent to murder (two counts), assault and battery with a knife, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace. He was arraigned on Wednesday in New Bedford District Court.
Early investigation suggests the victim and assailant knew each other. Fairhaven authorities and Massachusetts State Police are leading the probe, Boston 25 News reports. More details are expected as the story develops.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive or updates on the other two victims but urge anyone with information to come forward.
