The City of New Orleans has activated a new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) along the Lafitte Greenway to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The beacon stops vehicle traffic when in use, allowing safe crossing along the busy path.
The City Of NOLA's Facebook page shared instructions on how the beacon works, including a brief video. When activated, the signal follows a sequence of flashing yellow, solid yellow, solid red, and flashing red lights, indicating when drivers must stop and when they can proceed once the crosswalk is clear.
The PHB is part of ongoing efforts to enhance street safety in areas with heavy foot and bicycle traffic. The city encourages all users of the Lafitte Greenway to follow the signal and use the crossing safely.
