On Tuesday, an incident occurred on I-580 when a California Highway Patrol officer spotted a gray Infiniti speeding at 25 mph over the posted limit, resulting in an enforcement stop and a series of citations for an unlicensed driver. According to a social media post by CHP Oakland, the vehicle was not only traveling at excessive speeds but also exhibited unsafe maneuvers, all of which drew the attention of law enforcement.
The detailing of the traffic infraction, as reported by CHP Oakland, began around 10:45 AM; the officer observed the Infiniti engaging in questionable driving behavior on the westbound lane of the freeway, the driver cutting through a gore point, and commandeering a bus-only lane, which resulted in a prompt traffic stop. Upon being halted, the driver could only provide a California identification card, not a valid driver's license, which revealed through a DMV inquiry that the individual was, in fact, unlicensed and had previously been convicted of felony evading officers. The encounter culminated in the vehicle being towed and a 30-day impound instituted.
In a move to educate and warn the driving public, CHP Oakland utilized their Facebook platform to highlight the consequences of such actions. Noting the sequence of violations, the driver was cited under various codes: 12500(a) VC for being unlicensed, 21651(a)(1) VC for crossing a gore point, and 21461(a) VC for failing to obey a regulatory sign.
