Following up on multiple tips from concerned citizens, the Oakland Police Department's Alcoholic Beverage Action Team (ABAT) cracked down on an unlicensed smoke shop in East Oakland. The operation last Tuesday, orchestrated in partnership with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, yielded a trove of illegal items, including an assault weapon and various illicit substances from the premises situated at the 2900 block of MacArthur Boulevard, according to the Oakland Police Department.
During the raid, officers discovered not just any collection of contraband but significant amounts of marijuana, psilocybin, which are known as mushrooms, and what they suspect to be ecstasy pills, along with an assortment of flavored tobacco products, which are often criticized for their appeal to younger demographics, the cache of evidence of an underworld teeming beneath the banality of commerce. An individual has been apprehended as a result of the action and will now face the justice system with their case lodged at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
Backed financially by the Proposition 56 Grant, which the California Department of Justice oversees. The police implore residents to keep the information flowing, to persist in sounding the alarm on suspicious or illicit tobacco-related dealings in their neighborhoods by reaching out to the ABAT Complaint Hotline at (510)777-8677.
