Brace yourselves, OKC denizens, for a chilly weekend with a side of closures. OKC Parks is battening down the hatches in anticipation of some severe winter weather, and that means a slew of indoor facilities are taking a temporary hiatus. From Friday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 25, community centers, performing arts centers, and gyms under the OKC Parks umbrella will be off-limits, according to the City of Oklahoma City recent news.
For those counting on their regular recreational fix this weekend, don't despair—just plan ahead. The Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center and Will Rogers Senior Center aren't completely abandoning ship. They'll stay open on Friday, Jan. 23, but will be closed on both the Saturday and Sunday, joining their sibling facilities in the weather-imposed timeout, as detailed by the City of Oklahoma City.
Martin Park Nature Center will be closed for the weekend due to cold weather. The park and Visitor Center will be open Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., then closed until Monday. Will Rogers Gardens will be open Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for visitors to see the winter blooms. The Ed Lycan Conservatory and Garden Exhibition Center will be closed Saturday and Sunday, so most will need to stay indoors for the weekend.
