Authorities in Oklahoma City are conducting an investigation following the discovery of a deceased male at Lake Hefner. The unsettling find occurred Tuesday afternoon when a passerby noticed the body on the shoreline and swiftly alerted the police.
The Oklahoma City Police and Fire Department responded to a call around 3:30 p.m. Officers located a vehicle near the lake connected to the deceased. Police have identified the man, though his name has not been released, according to OKCFOX.
The medical examiner removed the body, and preliminary observations showed no signs of trauma, suggesting no foul play. Investigators will continue examining the circumstances surrounding the death. MSgt. Rob Robertson of the Oklahoma City Police Department said it appears to be a tragic accident, with the medical examiner making the final determination, according to KOCO.
The body was found near Stars and Stripes Park, away from a fishing pier off Lake Hefner Drive, according to KFOR. It is unclear how long the body was in the water. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
