Senator Spencer Kern of Oklahoma, a Republican from Duncan, has been elected to the role of Secretary for the State Ag and Rural Leaders (SARL) Board. The election took place at the SARL's annual Legislative Agriculture Chairs Summit, which was convened between January 3-5 in Louisiana, as reported on Thursday by the Oklahoma State Senate's website.
In his new role, Kern is tasked with the responsibility of strengthening cooperation and leadership between North American agriculture leaders, as well as aiding in policy development. Expressing his dedication to the position, Kern said, "I am honored to have been elected by fellow state lawmakers from across the country to serve as the Secretary of SARL. In this role, I look forward to collaborating with fellow agriculture leaders to ensure that farmers and ranchers' voices are heard, their challenges are addressed, and polices are advanced to support rural communities and strengthen the agriculture industry."
Senator Kern will be serving alongside Senate Agriculture and Wildlife Committee Chair Senator Casey Murdock, who also serves on the legislative board of SARL. Murdock commented on Kern's experience, asserting that "Senator Kern brings a wealth of experience in agriculture and rural affairs to this role. He has been a strong advocate for Oklahoma’s farmers and ranchers, and his leadership will ensure our state has a strong voice as SARL works to support and grow our nation's agriculture industry."
SARL, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, unites state legislative agriculture chairs and lawmakers from every corner of the United States, as well as elected officials from Canada and Puerto Rico. Kern's election to the board signifies a continued effort to uplift the concerns of agricultural communities and to robustly represent their interests. As a rancher himself, Kern aims to use his firsthand insights to "work with my peers and learning from one another through our shared industry experiences," he mentioned in the statement obtained by the Oklahoma State Senate's website.
