A fatal collision on the H1 Freeway near Kapolei killed one person around 8 p.m. near the Kualaka’i Parkway exit, just before Makakilo. The crash involved multiple vehicles and a possible pedestrian, KHON2 reported.
A person on the side of the road also suffered a severe leg injury. The crash caused traffic disruptions on the H1 Freeway’s westbound lanes, which were closed at the Kualaka’i Parkway off-ramp during the investigation. According to Hawaii News Now, this is the third traffic-related fatality on Oahu in 2026, up from just one at the same time last year.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services reported that, apart from the fatality, another man involved in the crash declined treatment. While the freeway has reopened, the crash highlights the rising number of traffic fatalities in the area and raises concerns about roadway safety.
Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved in the multi-vehicle crash, and the cause remains under investigation. Hawaii News Now reported that EMS arrived to find one man had already died from his injuries.
