
In what appears to be an unfortunate spree of opportunistic crime, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office reports making an arrest following a string of auto burglaries in Ooltewah, Tennessee. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of January 16, 2026, saw a total of four vehicles illegally entered and pilfered of items ranging from a wallet and sports equipment to a laptop and cash.
According to a social media post by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, deputies were quick to respond to reports of these incidents and conducted an investigation that led them to a residence — and vehicle — believed to belong to the suspect. After further observations which confirmed the suspect's involvement, a search warrant was obtained and executed. Items believed to be stolen, and marijuana, were recovered from the location.
The individual apprehended in connection to these crimes has been identified as Khalil Sivels. Charges laid against Sivels include identity theft, four counts of burglary of an auto, theft of property under $1,000, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card under $1,000, and simple possession of marijuana.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, in disclosing the details of the arrest and subsequent charges, emphasized that the information released is preliminary and may be subject to change as the investigation progresses. Despite the setback of these burglaries, the community of Ooltewah can find some comfort, in the swift action taken by law enforcement to bring a suspect into custody.
