On the last night of the year, a serious road-rage incident escalated into a near-fatal confrontation in Provo, Utah. Hamilton Molina Tabanico, a 30-year-old resident of Orem, was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun at another vehicle. Incident details were shared by KUTV, reporting that Provo Police received a 911 call just after 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve concerning an altercation involving an assault and a gunshot at the intersection of 600 W. and 300 S.
The episode, said to have begun with drivers shouting at each other, quickly devolved when Tabanico, driving a white Subaru sedan, and his passengers stopped to confront another driver and their brother, who had witnessed the exchange. In a scenario, to calm down, Tabanico is alleged to have chased the other vehicle and fired a shot in its direction. This information came to light in a report by ABC4.
While the Provo Police were quick in locating Tabanico's vehicle, the arrest also unveiled a more troubling aspect of his personal conduct. Tabanico was found to be on parole and was restricted from owning any firearms. Furthermore, he was driving on a suspended license and was supposed to have an ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle, which he did not. A firearm was found during a sweep of Tabanico's Subaru, as reported by local law enforcement and noted by Jim Spiewak of KUTV on Facebook.
