A Palm Beach Gardens man has been accused of driving at reckless speeds while under the influence early Thursday morning. According to a police report cited by CBS12, the driver, Rafael Pola, was clocked at 100 mph in a 45 mph zone on Alt A1A in Palm Beach Gardens.
The Palm Beach Gardens Police detail how a vehicle was first spotted at a high rate of speed on Alt A1A, where it was initially going approximately 75 mph in a 50 mph zone. The report described that the driver continued to accelerate, eventually reaching 100 mph. "The officer had to reach speeds of 120 mph in order to stop the dangerous driver", the criminal complaint notes, as Pola entered the southbound ramp to I-95 before a traffic stop was conducted, as reported by CBS12.
Pola, after failing all five field sobriety tests administered by the officer, was arrested at 1:05 a.m. He was recorded with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.161, twice the legal limit in Florida. The Boca Raton Tribune mentioned that Pola faces several charges, including DUI with a breath alcohol level of 0.15 or higher as well as a serious traffic violation for operating a vehicle at such dangerous speeds.
The arrest, which occurred yesterday, resulted in multiple charges against the White male, identified as Pola, under Report No. 564422. These charges will be reviewed by the State Attorney's Office, but it remains crucial to remember that the defendant holds the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. "As with all criminal matters, the allegations outlined in this report are accusations only," states the Boca Raton Tribune in their coverage of the incident.
