The Phoenix Police Department has issued a Critical Incident Briefing regarding an officer-involved shooting that unfolded on December 27, 2025. The situation began with officers responding to a welfare check at an apartment complex near 28th Drive and Larkspur Drive. As detailed in the City of Phoenix report, an individual not associated with the initial call became confrontational and threatened to shoot at the officers.
After responding to a welfare check, officers encountered the man again. He reportedly fired a handgun, prompting an officer to shoot him. The man attempted to flee but eventually complied and was detained and given medical attention.
The injured man was taken to a hospital for surgery and has since been released and booked into jail. The department’s briefing video contains graphic content and viewer discretion is advised.
The officer involved is assigned to the Cactus Park Precinct and has been with the force for about two years. The incident is under investigation by the Major Incident Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Phoenix Police Department.
