The aftermath of a disquieting burst of gunfire in downtown Phoenix has culminated in the death of one of the victims. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, 21-year old Eyosiyas Belema Jote succumbed to his injuries last Tuesday, elevating the severity of charges against the alleged assailant in a case already fraught with grievousness.
The downtown area, typically pulsing with the life offered by its nightclubs, became the stage for a chaotic scene on December 28, around 2:15 a.m. Not one but four individuals fell prey to the violence, with Jote suffering a headshot, leading to a conclusion no one wished near 1st Street and Washington Street. The three women involved, while injured, faced non-life-threatening injuries and have been expected to survive, according to a report by AZ Family.
Quickly following the incident, police apprehended 22-year-old Keon Malik Joubert, now faced with his freedom's abeyance on charges that already included four counts of aggravated assault. "Detectives are working with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office regarding changes to the charges against suspected shooter," stated the Phoenix Police Department, as relayed by FOX 10 Phoenix. This collaboration is spurned by the progression of the case from an instance of aggravated assault to that of potential homicide.
While the identities and conditions of the remaining three victims caught in the disarray remain uncommunicated to the public, police assure that the investigation is ongoing.
