The rapid spread of fire today is possible because of high winds, hot temperatures, and low humidity. Even a small spark can start a dangerous blaze, according to the Piedmont Fire Department's Facebook post.
A photo below shows a grass fire from about a week ago. Conditions back then were very similar to today’s weather, as reported by the Piedmont Fire Department.
This is a reminder to be extra careful outdoors. Avoid anything that could accidentally start a fire.
