A deputy-involved shooting in Pima County, Arizona, has left an armed man hospitalized and a woman in custody following an attempted arrest for an alleged armed robbery. FOX 10 Phoenix reports that the incident occurred late Sunday when Pima County deputies attempted to serve arrest warrants on the suspects at the My Place Hotel on the 5800 block of North Joplin Lane, near Interstate 10 and Cortaro Road.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the suspects fled on foot through the hotel where they were believed to be staying. The shooting took place after the man, now sought in connection with an armed robbery investigation, was seen with a handgun. Despite the events leading up to the shooting, the precise reason why the deputy discharged their weapon has not been made clear, nor the location where the man was shot.
The female suspect was apprehended and is facing multiple felony charges, while the male suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries post-shooting. KOLD News 13 reported that the deputies involved were unharmed in the incident, and the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team has been activated to investigate the shooting further.
In the wake of the shooting, details remain scarce. The sheriff's department did not release the names of those involved, nor the specific charges against the suspects. However, the community can expect that the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team's investigation will, in time, reveal more information. As of now, what's next for the suspects and the precise series of events that led to the shooting hangs in an uneasy balance, with the public left to await the findings of an investigation that is still very much unfolding.
