After 13 years, the popular Castro brunch spot Kitchen Story (3499 16th Street) has closed ahead of a concept change.
Kitchen Story announced the closure in a social media post on Thursday.
Fans of Kitchen Story's thick-cut Millionaire's Bacon will have one last weekend to enjoy the savory treat before the restaurant closes for good on January 4.

"A heartfelt gratitude, temporary farewell, and a new beginning," wrote Kitchen Story.
Opened in November 2012, Kitchen Story took over the space previously occupied by Tangerine. The restaurant quickly became popular, with large crowds gathering outside.
"We are deeply grateful to our guests who have supported, shared their mornings with us, and made this restaurant a part of their lives over the years," added Kitchen Story. "Your love and encouragement have meant more to us than words can express."
Kitchen Story is owned by Steven and Ji Yeon Choi, who also own Sweet Maple and Blackwood. Kitchen Story's Oakland location will remain open.

In 2018, Kitchen Story spinoff U: Dessert Story opened next door by restaurant general manager Tammy Boonlieng and Yaya Chok.
While Kitchen Story is closing, its owner has announced a new concept is on the way.
"While this chapter is coming to a close, it is not a goodbye. We look forward to welcoming you back soon with a new concept and a fresh beginning," explained Kitchen Story.
At this time, an opening date and the name of the new concept have not been announced.
