In a case that has disturbed our city, 20-year-old Damani Jazz Anderson has entered a guilty plea to a series of heinous sexual assaults perpetrated against five girls and young women from February 2023 to August 2024. The admission to numerous charges, including first-degree rape and kidnapping, was reported on by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. Anderson's sentencing is anticipated to occur on January 29, 2026, at 1 pm.
"Damani Anderson sought out vulnerable victims on-line, lured them to secluded places, placed them in mortal fear, and terrorized them. Their young lives literally have been shattered by his sexual violence," Senior Deputy District Attorney Robin Skarstad stated. Her remarks highlight the gravity of Anderson's transgressions and the courage of the survivors, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney website.
The attacks began when Anderson, only 16 at the time, carried out a violent assault on a 17-year-old acquaintance in February 2023. Over the following year and a half, the pattern of abuse continued with four additional victims. One of the incidents involved a 13-year-old who encountered Anderson on Snapchat and subsequently was attacked at gunpoint in a park. This victim was not only assaulted but also photographed and threatened with the release of the images, as detailed in a report from the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
Public commendation has been given to Portland Police Detective Kyffin Marcum and Gresham Police Detective Larry Foulke for their diligent work on the case. Extending gratitude to MCDA Victim Advocates, Allison Miller, and Alie Aguilera, the District Attorney's office recognized their compassionate support towards the assaulted individuals.
The brutality of the offenses has struck a chord with the local community. Approaching lights interrupted another incident, providing a brief window for the victim to escape and seeking assistance from nearby residents – an account reported by the victims and documented by authorities.
As this case moves toward sentencing, it remains a stark reminder of the threats lurking in the shadowed veins of our society and the importance of defending the innocent against such predators. The forthcoming sentencing of Damani Jazz Anderson will undoubtedly be followed closely by those invested in justice for the survivors.
