The Portland Police Bureau monitored protests near the ICE building and downtown Portland on Sunday, reporting that no arrests were needed as demonstrations remained peaceful. A rally at Salmon Street Springs at 3 p.m. turned into a march, which concluded without incident, according to the City of Portland.
Rapid Response Teams and other law enforcement units were on standby but did not intervene, with Portland Fire and Rescue providing support during the vigil. PPB observed no criminal activity near the ICE building, and the day ended without confrontations or the use of crowd control measures, as reported by the City of Portland.
The Portland Police Bureau reported 86 arrests connected to ICE protest activity, but yesterday’s demonstrations did not add to that number. The bureau said that not making arrests at a scene does not prevent later charges, which are sent to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office when appropriate. For updates, the public can check the PPB’s “Events” channel on platform X. The PPB said it enforces state laws and supports constitutionally protected activities, and Directive 810.10 confirms it does not handle immigration enforcement. Information on public safety measures and Chief Day’s community messages is available online, as stated by the City of Portland.
