A Rosedale woman is facing a future filled with financial ease after snagging the $1 million top prize from the Maryland Lottery's Holiday Raffle on what would have been her late mother's birthday, indicating a bittersweet blend of fortune and remembrance. Karen L. described her unexpected gain as a cosmic nudge from her mother, telling NottinghamMD, "I think it is my mom again, she is helping me with my retirement."
The exactness in the lottery's outcome can't escape notice, the winning ticket, numbered 136188, was picked during the Jan. 2 draw—an exceptionally meaningful date given its coincidence with her mother's birthday, though Karen remained unaware of her newfound wealth until she checked her ticket last Monday, at which point, she says the Maryland Lottery app simply prompted her, "Go to Lottery," according to a statement obtained by DailyVoice.
Speculations led Karen and a store clerk to suspect that she might have won a secondary prize, but upon checking, the clerk presciently observed, "It’s you. I know it’s you," before the seven-figure reality emerged on the scan, a revelation shared in an interview with DailyVoice. This incident led Karen, a usual player of Powerball, Mega Millions, and scratch-offs within a firm budget, to break routine by purchasing the $20 Holiday Raffle ticket that sealed her fate.
