Two people were hurt in a drive-by shooting yesterday at the East Lancaster bus transfer station in Fort Worth, according to officials. Both were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Witnesses told police a vehicle pulled up to the transfer point, someone inside opened fire, and the car then took off.
What the Police Said
Officers responded to the intersection of East Lancaster Avenue and Sargent Street around 6:30 p.m., according to WFAA. Police said a car drove up to the bus transfer station and shots were fired, striking one person in the shoulder and another in the arm, before the vehicle fled the area. Detectives with the Fort Worth Police Department's Gun Violence Unit were notified and are handling the investigation.
Transit Corridor Context
The East Lancaster corridor has long been on the radar for safety issues around transit hubs. In 2019, TxDOT installed a black metal fence between Oakland Boulevard and Sargent Avenue near a Trinity Metro transfer stop to curb dangerous street crossings, as CBS News reported.
