After nearly three years of demolition dust, scaffolding, and nonstop neighborhood speculation, Carmine’s, the Gold Coast Italian fixture on Rush Street, is finally back. The restaurant reopens Monday with a rebuilt dining room and a fully enclosed, year-round terrace. Regulars will still find the oversized, family-style platters they are used to, now folded into a single, roughly 10,000-square-foot space that Rosebud says is designed to feel like a classic supper club.
Rosebud Restaurant Group has confirmed the reopening date and says reservations will open Sunday, as reported by Axios Chicago. The comeback follows a shutdown that began in early 2023 to allow for a full reconstruction of the Rush Street spot.
Renovation And New Layout
The overhaul is framed as a roughly $4 million reconstruction meant to update the building while keeping Carmine’s old-school character intact, according to a company press release. That announcement detailed plans for more than 10,000 square feet of dining space, multiple bar areas, a 40-seat private dining room, and an all-weather, four-season terrace built for year-round use, per the Rosebud release via GlobeNewswire.
Where To Find It
Rosebud's official site lists the Gold Coast location as 1037 N. Rush St., putting Carmine’s back on the far north stretch of the Rush Street corridor. The redesigned second-floor terrace is set to overlook Mariano Park and Rush Street, giving diners a rare elevated view on that block, according to Eater Chicago.
Menu And The Return Of Classics
Rosebud says the refreshed menu will revive longtime crowd-pleasers like stuffed mushrooms, chicken Parmesan, rigatoni with vodka sauce, and a premium butcher-cut bone-in ribeye. The group also plans to use the relaunch to try out dishes it has been developing at other Rosebud spots. The company describes the reopening as a way to keep Carmine’s signatures in place while improving how the space handles big groups and events, according to the release via GlobeNewswire.
What Locals Should Know
The new Carmine’s sign has been hanging over Rush Street for months, fueling plenty of sidewalk chatter about when the doors would actually reopen. Axios Chicago notes Carmine’s is one of eight restaurants in the Rosebud family across Chicago and the suburbs, and that reservations are set to go live the day before the relaunch.
How To Get A Table
Reservations are scheduled to open Sunday. For now, the restaurant's site labels bookings as "Coming Soon" and lists a Chicago phone number for diners with questions. To snag an early seat on Rush Street, keep an eye on the official site for the reservation link and opening-week availability, with details posted on Carmine's website.
