On the 800 block of Highland Avenue, San Mateo Police Department officers responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance that spelled trouble for one Shomari Evans. On Wednesday, a call for potential mail theft led authorities to a vehicle matching descriptions given by the concerned citizen. According to the San Mateo Police Department's social media post, Evans, the lone driver, was pulled over for a license plate violation at approximately 8:17 AM.
But this traffic stop soon escalated when officers recognized that Evans had an active felony warrant out for his arrest. A search of his vehicle not only corroborated the mail theft suspicion but also uncovered a stash that included a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and lock-picking tools.
Evans, a 46-year-old from Campbell, faced the music as he was arrested for a medley of charges. The list of felonies he garnered included first-degree burglary and petty theft, with the added weight of multiple prior convictions. His rap sheet from that day also featured possession-related charges of a controlled substance and stolen property, in addition to possession of burglary tools. The suspect was taken to the San Mateo County Jail, where he was booked without further incident.
