Controversy trails the footsteps of JD Vance as he visits Minneapolis, sparking reactions from local politicians about his engagement with the community. Among the most vocal, Senator Zaynab Mohamed (DFL-Minneapolis) didn't hold back, offering a stinging criticism of Vance's agenda and methods. In a statement made by the Minnesota Senate DFL, Mohamed accused Vance of being part of a propaganda campaign against Americans under the Trump administration.
"Anyone willing to legitimize public appearances by JD Vance is not a ‘local leader,’ they are a pawn in a propaganda campaign against Americans," asserted Mohamed, as per the Minnesota Senate DFL. She suggested Vance could have engaged in more constructive dialogues with those affected by aggressive immigration enforcement tactics, such as doctors, local police officers, and families disrupted by ICE activities. Yet, she claims these are interactions Vance deliberately avoids.
Mohamed's words reflect a deep concern for the well-being of Minnesotans and a sharp critique of Vance, tying him to policies that she describes as fostering fear and authoritarian overreach. She articulated that if Vance truly wished to understand the local issues, he would have to face the realities of the fear instilled in the immigrant community, not just stage appearances removed from the harsh realities some residents are facing. The senator emphasized, "Vance has claimed his agents here have ‘absolute immunity.’ Americans know there’s no such thing, not for ICE officers now, and not for people like JD Vance and Kristi Noem when they’re held accountable for what they’ve done," the Minnesota Senate DFL stated.
