A fatal stabbing in Cambridge has led to the arrest of a South Boston man, authorities confirmed. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow announced that 51-year-old Victor Rivas faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury. The incident occurred last night inside a residential building on Norfolk Street, according to the Cambridge Police Department.

According to emergency response records, at around 7:52 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was made reporting a stabbing at an apartment complex on Norfolk Street. Arriving on the scene, Cambridge Police, Fire, and EMS units found one victim with serious injuries. Despite being rushed to a local hospital by Cambridge Fire and Pro EMS, the victim succumbed to their injuries. Nearby, officers from CPD and the MIT Police Department arrested Rivas.

In a statement by the Cambridge Police Department on social media, the preliminary investigation suggests an altercation took place inside the apartment. It involved Rivas and the male victim, who were believed to know each other. During the altercation, both parties sustained injuries, leading to the tragic outcome.

Rivas is set for arraignment tomorrow, January 9, before the Cambridge District Court. As stated by the Cambridge Police Department, this case remains under active investigation by CPD Detectives, alongside the Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. They emphasized that this appears to be an isolated incident, positing no further threat to public safety. The prosecutor's office, with Nicole Allain and Jacob McCrindle on the lead, will handle the proceedings against Rivas.
