Tragedy struck early Monday morning as the El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to a gruesome motor vehicle crash on Interstate 10, where speed appeared to play a cruel factor. Around 1:40 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the scene at mile marker 35 on the eastbound side, only to be confronted with a multi-vehicle collision, complete with severe injuries, that would necessitate the intervention of the Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators (STI).
The STI has since taken over the investigation of the crash, and, traveling at a high rate of speed, a white Kia passenger vehicle is said to have lost control and slammed into the rear of a semi-truck. The aftermath was nothing short of chaotic. El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte posted about the incident on social media, confirming the tragic outcome.
The driver of the Kia, since identified as 29-year-old Fernando Aria Jr. of El Paso, Texas, sustained fatal injuries that later claimed his life at a local hospital. Responding to the accident, a grim reality faced by the first responders, the importance of controlling speed on the roadways becomes evident once again. Aria's next of kin have been notified of the heartbreaking loss.
