The St. Bernard Animal Shelter has reached no-kill status for 2025, according to a social media post from St. Bernard Parish Government. The designation means the shelter achieved a save rate of at least 90%, ensuring that most healthy and treatable animals were not euthanized and had the opportunity to be adopted.
Parish officials credited shelter staff, rescue partners, volunteers and community members for the achievement. “This meaningful milestone is a true testament to the dedication, perseverance, and collaboration of our shelter staff, rescue partners, volunteers, and community,” the St. Bernard Parish Government's Post stated. Officials said the milestone could serve as a model for other shelters working toward no-kill status.
The post also thanked the community for its support, saying, “Thank you to everyone who plays a role in giving our animals a second chance.” Shelter officials said the achievement reflects the impact of continued investment in humane animal care practices.
Officials said the milestone highlights the shelter’s continued commitment to humane animal care and the role community support plays in improving outcomes for pets.
