As New Year’s celebrations get underway, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) is reminding residents to make safe choices when it comes to transportation. Through Jan. 2, the Holiday Ride Home Program offers a free, safe ride to anyone who has been drinking. Residents within St. Bernard Parish can call (504) 271-2501 to be driven home by deputies, while those outside the parish can be taken to a local substation to reunite with friends or family.

This program, which has been running since 1986, provides a practical alternative to drinking and driving, helping keep the community safe. The SBSO will not transport individuals to additional parties, bars, or beyond parish limits.

According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office post, Sheriff James Pohlmann emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, "This long-running Holiday Ride Home Program, started in 1986, helps keep our community safe - and that’s something worth celebrating." By offering this service, the Sheriff's Office reinforces its commitment to public safety during a festive time when judgment can easily be impaired.
