Cincinnati has experienced an unsettling start to the new year with a shooting at Government Square that took place on January 3, just as the hustle of post-holiday life was kicking into gear. The incident, details of which have slowly emerged, points to an all-too-familiar cascade of altercation leading to violence.
According to a video released by Cincinnati police and reported by FOX19, following an argument on a Metro bus, 40-year-old Ronrico Hampton was seen tracking a person off the vehicle and engaging in a physical confrontation. The dispute escalated, with Hampton reportedly slapping the victim in the face and then firing a shot that struck the victim just outside the bus on East Fifth Street. Despite this harrowing event, the victim's injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and they are expected to recover.
After more than a week on the run, the suspect was finally cornered by Cincinnati's Fugitive Apprehension Unit. WLWT reported that Hampton had been arrested on a warrant for felonious assault. His bond was set at 10% of $200,000 during his Tuesday appearance in court.
This incident paints a stark image on the canvas of urban life, where violence is often a shadow lurking in the midst of daily commutes and city bustle. The investigation remains active as detectives solicit the public's help, urging anyone with information about the assault to reach out. Police have requested that tips be directed to Detective Barney Blank at 513-352-5442, according to a statement obtained by Local12.
