A man was found dead from a gunshot wound early Monday on Saddle Ridge Drive in Snellville. Gwinnett County authorities have charged 30-year-old Derrick Devon Thomas in connection with the death of 36-year-old Abel Alejandro Unzicker Chavez. Thomas faces charges including felony murder, aggravated assault, and several firearms-related offenses, according to Gwinnett County.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday, following a distress call, and found the victim on the 3800 block of Saddle Ridge Drive. Officials described the neighborhood as safe, stating that the incident appears to be isolated. A notice on the Gwinnett County website confirmed there is no immediate danger to the public.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are still determining the motive and the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
