Gwinnett County police are actively searching for a man involved in a theft at Atlanta Unique Auto Sales, following an incident that saw four sets of vehicle keys stolen from the dealership's lot. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the suspect entered the dealership on Buford Highway last Thursday. There have been reports suggesting he arrived in a vehicle previously stolen from another location.
While the man's identity remains unknown, police urge the public to exercise caution, stating he may be armed and advising against approaching him. To further aid in the investigation, anyone with information on the suspect or the events that transpired has been encouraged to quickly contact and provide assistance to law enforcement.
Channel 2's Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson has shed light on the possibility that this may not be an isolated incident and that the suspect could be involved in similar activities in multiple counties. The dealership heist in question occurred on New Year's Day, as reported by WSBTV, with surveillance footage capturing the suspect inside the premises.
"It’s common for individuals that do steal cars to come to businesses during regular business hours, swipe the keys, trying to do it without being noticed, and then coming back when the business is closed and stealing the cars at night time," Cpl. Angela Carter told WSBTV. The suspect appears to have experience in such activities, as police believe he was driving a car stolen from Doraville at the time of the theft. "Information that was received leads us to believe that he does carry a firearm regularly on his hip," Cpl. Carter added.
While the suspect has not returned to claim the vehicles associated with the stolen keys at Unique Auto Sales, the situation remains a serious concern for dealerships in the region. With the possibility of the suspect returning or targeting other businesses, a widespread alert has been broadcasted, and the police are relying on community vigilance. Sightings or information regarding the suspect should warrant an immediate call to 911.
