Authorities are on the lookout for suspects involved in a chilling scenario where a man was carjacked and kidnapped after being pulled over by a vehicle equipped with what appeared to be police lights. This incident occurred last night in Southeast Shelby County. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene near Glen Eden Drive and Tulip Rose Lane after receiving the concerning call, as reported by Action News 5.
Deputies later located the victim's vehicle and gave chase, but they lost sight of it during the pursuit in the vicinity of Ridgeway and 385. While the victim subsequently escaped the perpetrators near Quince and Kirby Roads, making his way to a nearby business to seek help, his car was found later on, as mentioned in a WREG report. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office asserts that the suspects are still at large, and the vehicle used during the initial impersonation of law enforcement has yet to be located.
Officials are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for this act of impersonation and abduction. In a statement obtained by FOX13 Memphis, the sheriff's office advised the public to verify the legitimacy of unmarked police vehicles by calling the police dispatch if there's any uncertainty during a traffic stop.
Authorities urge anyone with information about this crime to come forward and contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at 901-379-7625 or Memphis Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH. The investigation remains ongoing.
