Drivers navigating through Bradley and McMinn counties should be prepared for slowed traffic as TDOT contract crews embark on tree trimming work along I-75 North. According to an advisory from the Tennessee Department of Transportation available on their website, this necessary maintenance will begin on Tuesday night, January 6, and will take place near the Hiwassee River in McMinn County.
The work is set to perform from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am EST, with the right lane and shoulder closure spanning from mile marker 34 to mile marker 36 on I-75 North. Warning signs and altered traffic patterns will be noticeable starting in Bradley County. While the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on-site to assist with traffic control, motorists are advised to expect delays and to exercise caution when driving through the zone.
TDOT officials said the scheduled maintenance remains weather-dependent and urged motorists to check road conditions before traveling. Drivers are encouraged to use TDOT’s motorist information resources, including the SmartWay Map or by calling 511, for the latest traffic updates. TDOT also reiterated the importance of safe driving, reminding motorists to avoid distractions such as texting, tweeting, or using a cellphone while driving.
Tennessee’s Move Over Law protects highway workers and emergency vehicles, requiring drivers to shift lanes or slow down when approaching these vehicles on the road. Violators of this law can to quickly find themselves facing severe consequences, including up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500, as underlined by the TDOT advisory.
