A somber start to the New Year unfolded in Tamarac, as a teen and a woman were injured in a shooting incident during New Year's Eve festivities; a man has been detained in connection with the incident, though the full details remain shrouded as law enforcement continues to investigate, as reported by NBC Miami.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 10:10 p.m. yesterday, when gunfire interrupted the evening and forced first responders to the 7900 block of Northwest 71st Avenue, where they encountered the injured parties, the male teen, whose injuries were described as potentially life-threatening, was promptly taken to a local hospital by Tamarac Fire Rescue following the traumatic event, and the woman was treated at the scene her injuries, though severe, appeared less dire, according to Local 10.
The shooting has rocked the local community, with resident Bob Doptoglon recounting the harrowing aftermath, saying, "There was a guy that got shot. He ran and hit underneath one of the trucks there and was bleeding out, and apparently one of the ambulances got him out of here," Local 10 reported him saying, with the added gravity of uncertainty, "I don't know if he made it or not. He was critically injured."
The Broward Sheriff's Office has yet to release names of the individuals involved, and it isn't clear whether additional suspects are being sought or if further details will emerge linking the detained man to the shooting. The BSO's statements on the situation are pending as their investigation presses forward, according to information from NBC Miami.
