Gresham detectives are once again turning up the heat in their search for a missing teen they say is wanted in the Jan. 23, 2025 killing of 17-year-old Jorge Ovidio Mateo Vasquez at Vance Park. Investigators say the attack, described as an apparent unprovoked shooting, happened just after 4 p.m. while Vasquez was playing on the park's futsal court. Police have identified the suspect as Camerino Vides, who was 16 at the time and is now believed to be 17. They say he may be armed and warn that he should not be approached.
Detectives renew one-year appeal
Marking roughly a year since the shooting, detectives told reporters they still have no confirmed location for Vides and are urging the community to come forward with any information that could help track him down. "Someone knows where Vides is," Detective Frederick Huffman said, according to Right Now Oregon, which covered the renewed public appeal.
What investigators say about the Jan. 23 shooting
In a news release, the Gresham Police Department said officers responded to the 1400 block of SE 182nd Avenue shortly after 4 p.m. and found Vasquez suffering from gunshot wounds. The East County Major Crimes Team took over the investigation. The city lists the case number as 25-3314 and is asking anyone with information about the killing or Vides' whereabouts to contact detectives working the case.
Safety warnings and local violence response
Police have repeatedly stressed that members of the public should not try to confront or detain Vides, warning that he may be armed. Anyone who believes they see him is urged to call 911 immediately. Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg told KPTV that the department has rolled out initiatives such as Ceasefire Gresham to address gun violence in the city while detectives continue to work the case.
How to pass tips to investigators
For urgent sightings, police say to call 911 right away. For non-urgent tips, the city's announcement lists Detective Frederick Huffman ([email protected]) and Detective Tim Snider ([email protected]) and asks tipsters to reference case number 25-3314. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers of Oregon.
One year on
Hoodline covered the initial public appeal after the killing in early 2025, and the renewed push from detectives highlights how long a case can hang over a community when a suspect remains at large. The latest request for tips was also reported by KOIN, which detailed the one-year mark in the search for Vides.
