Fernando Ortiz, a 34-year-old man from Troup County who went missing on December 25, 2025, was found dead last Saturday at West Point Lake. He was last seen on Liberty Hill Road, prompting a large search involving the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, and Emergency Management Agency, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The discovery was made around 1:45 p.m. by Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue. The search also included the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Corp of Engineers, and AMR, ending in the tragic confirmation of Ortiz’s death.
The investigation into Ortiz's disappearance and death is ongoing, with the cause of death still undetermined. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy, while the Troup County Sheriff's Office continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the case, as reported by WSBTV.
