Major construction projects in Tulsa are set to continue through this year and beyond, affecting the city’s highways. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports that improvements to the I-44/US-75 interchange are ongoing. Current closures are affecting several ramps and local streets, with the project expected to be completed by summer 2028.
Drivers who normally use the east- and westbound I-44 ramps to access northbound US-75 are being directed to detour via eastbound I-244. The southbound US-75 ramp to westbound I-44 is now routing traffic onto westbound I-244. The southbound US-75 on-ramp from 41st Street is closed, and Skelly Drive is closed between Union Avenue and Olympia Avenue. Additionally, 46th Street has been reduced to a single lane at US-75.
Construction at the I-44/SH-66 interchange in Catoosa is expected to continue through this year. Lane closures are in effect on both east- and westbound I-44, SH-66, and ramps to westbound I-44. According to the report, two lanes of traffic on I-44 will be maintained in both directions during peak travel times. Drivers needing the westbound I-44 off-ramp to northbound SH-66 are being directed to use the detour via the 165th E. Avenue exit.
US-75 is reduced to a single lane between 56th Street N. and 66th Street N. for bridge rehabilitation, which is expected to continue through summer. The lane reduction may result in slower traffic and increased congestion for commuters in this area.
Pavement rehabilitation on SH-97 in Sand Springs continues, with intermittent lane closures from S. Main Street to W. 2nd Street. The work is expected to affect traffic flow until this month.
