Two individuals were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a crash where a dump truck plummeted 40 feet off an overpass in Allston's Cambridge Street area. The incident occurred early on Friday morning at approximately 7:45 a.m. near the intersection of Cambridge Street and Windom Street, causing significant traffic disruptions, reported both WCVB and WHDH.
According to the initial investigation, the truck belonging to Tiabi, a construction company based in Wakefield, was involved in a collision with another vehicle that led to the truck breaching a fence and descending into a Harvard University construction area below; traffic was congested for several hours with on and off ramps to the Mass Pike closed as the Boston Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and truck inspectors examined the scene, a downed light pole was removed and efforts were made to clean up the area, all roads were reopened around 2 p.m. as stated by WCVB. WHDH noted a local resident's reaction to the crash, "It’s a big shock walking through and seeing everything like this, this is normally just a lot of traffic. Pretty straight forward," underscoring the unusual nature of such an event in a typically busy zone.
Both drivers received prompt medical attention from Boston EMS, and as per WHDH, no other individuals were injured in the incident. The crash, which led to both vehicles' drivers getting rushed to the hospital, instantly transformed the quiet of a mundane Boston morning into a tableau of flashing lights and emergency services leaping into action to assist and investigate.
The cause of this striking accident remains under investigation, no statements have been released from Tiabi; Massachusetts Department of Transportation crews and authorities are working together to unravel the sequence of events that led to this unexpected plunge, WCVB has stated they reached out to Tiabi but they have not received a response, meanwhile, the public is left to ponder the fragility of a routine journey disrupted by unforeseen havoc.
