Early this morning in Belmont, Massachusetts, a collision between an MBTA Commuter Rail train and a car resulted in serious injuries for two individuals. According to Boston 25 News, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. near the crossing on Brighton Street, during a significant snowstorm that affected the entire state.
The vehicle, identified as a 2014 Toyota Avalon by NBC Boston, became trapped on the tracks as the train was approaching, leading to the crash. Both the driver, and the passenger of the Avalon were trapped inside and required the Jaws of Life to be extricated from the wreckage. They were then taken to a local hospital with serious injuries but are expected to survive.
MBTA Transit Police are currently leading an investigation to determine the precise sequence of events that led to the gruesome collision. Authorities have not yet released further information on the condition of the two injured individuals or on what may have caused the vehicle to become stuck on the tracks.
