A man in Ware has been taken into police custody after he was reported to be brandishing a machete on the streets, throwing a wild but dangerous facet into the sleepy town's day-to-day. According to a social media post from the Ware Police Department, Hector Peterson III was arrested on Tuesday, after members of the police department responded to calls of a man walking with a machete on Otis Avenue.
Peterson is facing multiple charges, including vandalism of property, and while no one was reported injured, the community has been shaken by the assault with a dangerous weapon. An unexpected drug charge was added after Peterson was found to be in possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, specifically crack cocaine. He is being held and is awaiting a dangerousness hearing scheduled for January 5, 2025.
The suspect was transported to the Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown for arraignment, and law enforcement officials confirmed the details of his detention and forthcoming legal proceedings.
