The equestrian community in Wellington, Florida, is preparing for the 17th Annual Great Charity Challenge tomorrow. According to CBS12 News, the event will feature top riders, including aspiring Olympian Lillie Keenan, and will serve as a major fundraiser for local nonprofits, with a total purse of $2 million.
Lillie Keenan, an international show jumper who started riding at age six in Central Park, has become a leading figure in the sport. Based in Wellington, she is preparing for the World Equestrian Games in Germany this summer and aims to make her Olympic debut in 2028. Keenan has cited Wellington as her home base due to its high level of competition and its importance in her training as a member of Team USA.
The Wellington International event has attracted attention for its charitable focus and popular family night, which features the $50,000 Grand Prix. The event is known for its lively atmosphere, especially on Saturday evenings, drawing increasing crowds interested in the sport. Keenan noted that the athlete-animal connection in show jumping adds to the event’s appeal, making it accessible and engaging for all spectators.
For attendees, gates at Wellington International open at 6 p.m., with the competition starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is available on-site for $25 per vehicle, while free parking is offered at the Equestrian Village at 13500 South Shore Blvd. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County are among the local nonprofits benefiting from the event, competing for a share of the $2 million purse, according to a Facebook post.
